About the Potter
I’m a studio potter currently based in Airdrie, Alberta. My journey with clay started with high school art classes and continued when I was 19 and enrolled at ACAD now Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) in Calgary. It didn’t take long for me to realize that clay was it for me and I decided to dive deep into the world of pottery.
I spent four years there as a Ceramics Major, learning from some wonderful master potters from all over the world. After graduating with a BFA in Ceramics and a Diploma in Visual Arts I carried on with my education as a selected paid participant in the ACAD Career Centre Self-Employment Program. I am thankful for the treasure trove of information and experience learned in these years!
I have been making and selling my pottery now for more than 30 years. Teaching began just over 15 years ago which moved into a permanent position as a Secondary Options Pottery teacher at a local private school, ACA. I have now transitioned completely to only teaching private classes out of my home studio. Being an active participant in my local community developing the arts and fostering imagination has been so fulfilling.
In my work, I aim to blend artistry with design, making functional pottery that explores texture and pattern. My classes focus on skill development, proper technique combined with creative exploration. When I’m not making pottery and teaching, I enjoy hiking in the Rocky Mountains with my family and tending to my many plants, 67 and counting! It’s something that keeps me inspired and always learning.
I believe in the power of creative experiences to enhance mental well-being, offering avenues for personal expression, stress relief, and appreciation of the arts within our community.
